Migration path from Build 3214 dated Oct 2006

I have been happily using the above build with Mac OS x 10.4.11 since October 2006, with XP professional as the alternative.
This is the rig
Hardware Overview:

Model Name: iMac

Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
Processor Speed: 2.16 GHz
Number Of Processors: 1
Total Number Of Cores: 2
L2 Cache (per processor): 4 MB
Memory: 2 GB
Bus Speed: 667 MHz
Boot ROM Version: IM51.0090.B09
SMC Version: 1.9f4

All has worked very well, happy as Larry, so have had no need to be back here since.

However in recent weeks Firefox and Skype have updated on the OS X side and then tell me that they don't work with 10.4.11

My question is how best to migrate up the Mac OS chain with a minimum impact on //'s and XP.

Ideally I don't want to have to to fully re-cook the //'s side and then reinstall XP plus all the other stuff thats on that side.
