Missing Virtual Sound Hardware?

I'm evaluating Parallels at the moment and so far have been impressed, expect for one thing - there appears to be no sound support...

I'm using the following setup:

Host: MacBook Pro with OSX 10.5.8 (Leopard) installed (2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo [2Gb RAM])
Guest: WinXP Pro SP3 (vanilla install fully patched)
Parallels: Parallels Desktop for Mac 7.0.14924

I have installed Parallels Tools on the guest, which appears to have worked fine and I have checked the WinXP Device Manager, but all seems in order; there are no "question marks" suggesting unresolved drivers, etc - it simply looks as though audio "hardware" as not been provided by Parallels - this is reinforced by the Hardware options listed under Parallels.

Is it possible to get sound working using Parallels 7 and WinXP?

Many thanks.

Resolved

Think I've resolved this.

Looks like sound is not enabled on guest machines in Parallels by default - you have to explicitly add it to the hardware profile for the virtual machine.

Nothing wrong with this, but it wasn't particularly obvious where you do this from - for others it's as follows:

[Menu Bar] -> Virtual Machine -> Configure... -> Hardware -> [The '+' Button at Bottom/Left] -> Sound

Many thanks.

Hmm... I have a MacBook Pro running OSX 10.7.2 and a WinXP Home Edition SP3. My sound works.

I've attached a screen shot showing my Hardware Options. Do you not have the Sound setting? What about at the bottom of your VM window... do you see a Sound Icon? Check Control Panel | Windows Sound and Audio Devices. Do you see Parallels Sound Card being used?

Edit: Looks like you found it yourself while I was typing. :)

I've never not seen sound included when a new VM is created. This is odd.
