Parallels in a lot of ways is superior to VMWare Fusion, but in a lot of ways, VMWare does a better job. VMWare feels more like a Mac app then Parallels, and this is about the toolbar, and layout of the preferences. VMWare is very clean. Yes, there is more flexibility in Parallels, but I gotta say though, VMWare is faster when running in full screen and Windows mode. Parallels is faster in their integrated mode (Coherence, and Unity).

As of the newest beta though, I'd say that Parallels has done an excellent job of closing the performance gap. Now it's gotten down to the little things. I can personally live without the more Mac like interface, but the ability to run a Windows app completely like a Mac app is huge, the ability to minimize to the dock for example. I use Windows for 8 hours a day at work, and the start menu is the bane of my existence.
