is it possible to connect a Mac and a PC using a crossover cable ?
    (ethernet like two PCs)

and how to do it please.
I cannot afford to buy a switch just now

    Hello!
What you might want to try is to manually assign IP addresses to PC and Mac. Those IP addresses should be from the same subnet. After that you should be able to use network transfer procedure.
    Hope that helps.

    thanks

unfortunately I am dim about networking
I have a terrible time sorting out permissions and work groups in Windows XP

Parallels virtual network between Mac and PC is the ideal for me
    just sorting permissions under devices

Ok, could you please elaborate on the purpose of the Mac-PC connection?
From the thread name I assumed that you wanted to migrate your Windows to Mac using Parallels Transporter over crossover cable. Is that so?
