In the VM windows environment, some Office programs will offer to export into other Office programs.
On my Mac, I run Windows VM and heavily use MS Project. The only other Office program I run under the VM is Visio. However, I have the Offices Suite on my Mac OSX (Word, Excel, Outlook, Powerpoint).
Project offers the ability to export charts and data to Excel. However, it tries to find Excel in my VM. I understand I need either Project or the Windows OS VM to associate any Excel requests and route to my MAC.
I have set the VM configure > Applications > Share Mac Applications: still no luck
I note in my Windows > Start > Default Programs: all excel associated extensions are forward to MAC.
HOWEVER, on that same list of programs I see a lot of unassociated files. Could this be the path to fix this issue? See the photo below:
