Mucho problema with Mac's Airport on WinXP

I have been having a lot of trouble trying to access the internet on the Windows XP Pro side of Parallels on my MacBook.

I have posted my problem on the Apple and Parallels forums with little luck. One fellow sent me an email on how to configure Aiport to access the internet y assigning a fixed IP address. After following his instruction and still not being able to get online I contacted him by phone. He is an IT specialist very well versed in both Windows and Macs. We spent over two hours trying to configure Paralles to allow wireless internet access, but with no success.

I tried setting up a fixed IP address but that did not work.

The Win XP side seems fine and it says I am connected to the intenet at 100 mbps but Internet Explorer or Firefox cannot connect.

This fellow said that my problem is that when I go under System Preferences > Network (on the Mac side) and choose Location: Automatic, Show: Network Port Configuration I do not have the option to check Parallels Host-Guest Adapter.

I tried manually ceating the Parallels Host-Guest file but it did not work. I uninstalled and reinstalled Parallels and installed the Parallels tool. I also reinstalled the Parallels Beta update and its Tools and nothing seems to work.

It would seem that the Paralles Host-Guest Adapter is not getting installed when I install Parallels.

I would really appreciate it if someone could help me with this since I Windows XP (and thus Parallels) is somewhat useless for me without internet access and I feel I have tried everything I can (with much outside help) do get this to work

Any suggestions would be welcomed.

I don't have a real solution, but I can add to your description of the issue.

I have a choice at my desk of using Airport or cabled ethernet. I am running XP Home under Parallels. My Parallels network adapter is set to default, but specifying using the Airport adapter or using Host Based still result in connection problems on the Airport adapter

If my Macbook has been rebooted since using Parallels and I am using Airport and do not have an ethernet cable connected, XP does not find the network.

If, however, I connect the cable and then start Parallels, it finds the network immediately. After that, I can unplug the cable and even without rebooting XP it will start using the Airport connection. Weird!
 
Airport Connection Solution

Just tried a new approach and it seemed to work.

I thought I recognized the IP address being picked up by Parallels when it wouldn't connect as one that the Mac assigns to itself when it can't get a DHCP server. I suspect that the DHCP request isn't making it through the Parallels/Airport combo. I setup XP with a static IP address, rebooted the Mac running only the Airport connection and it connected right away.

Hopefully this clue will help somebody at Parallels to figure out a real fix.

Thanks for the suggestions. I tried this and still no luck. I am so pissed of right now. I do not know what to do. Two months trying to get online with some pretty professional help and nothing.

I reinstalled OS X today and still nothing.

First off, which version of Parallels are you running? 1892.6? If not, you should download it and see what effect it has. Several probs have been resolved in it.
 
I have the most recent version on the website that I could find (1884). I did not see anywhere that there was an 1892.6?

Also I know not very many people are having this problem Only some. I have tried everything I can think of. I have written Parallels tech support weeks ago with no reply.
 
Oddly, I don't ever even see the Airport as hardware in XP when I boot. No wireless possible. Clearly, I must be missing a config, but am at least currently stumped...
