The short version: I had suceeded in getting the Bluetooth to work to allow PDA syncing. I was a happy camper. I went to shut down my Parallels Windows XP window when the computer hung for quite a while. (The Parallels XP window had shut down to the point where I had a black screen and a message that said it was alright to shut down the machine). I was unable to get anything to work, so I shut the computer down with the power button. Now, on boot up I get a note in various languages that says "restart the computer by pressing the power button". (A Kernal panic?) upon which I restart and I get the same message, no boot into OS X. If I hold down the options button, I can select OS X or Windows and get the restart screen and if I select OS X I get the same restart screen no reboot. If I select Windows I get a black screen and if I'm quick there's a option to select the Parallels boot up or the WIndows XP Home Edition boot up. If I catch the Windows XP Home edition the computer boots right into XP works great! Now the frustrating part, I figure oh well I'll just reinstall everything by booting from Mac OS X Disks and reinstall the whole system and start over. After starting the machine and holding down the "c" key I get the grey screen with the apple and spinning wheel and after a min or so I get a light blue screen and that's all, no install screen, nothing. So, I can't boot into Mac OS X but I can boot into Windows XP.... Help!!!!

Vistied the local Apple Store, great folks I am impressed with their service.
The tech was able to boot up the computer using a disk he had for OS X 10.4.7
We then used my DVD to install the latest version after archiving the previous
OS and files and I was outta there after 45 mins. I did find a ton of stuff on here
after I posted my note. I found the best info by searching blue screen (not the BSOD)
I did have to reload some software but Itunes and Iphotos just only had to be moved out
of the archive folder.
The question is what happened? I was about to try the latest Parallels RC2 again but
I laid on the floor until the feeling went away and I'm gonna wait until the official version.
BTW I was able to fix the Boot into Windows XP by modifing the boot.ini file. There's a
thread here somewhere on the board here that explained it... Whew, glad I got my MacBook back in one peace!

Sounds like the problems this guy had in this thread. Some other solutions are suggested here.

okay,
i don't have access to any of the fixes described in the other threads, but can see my mac os x partition from my bootcamp partition using macdrive 6. i've deleted the library/startupitems/parallels folder and the parallels app folder and its folder from the library. still won't boot even from the cd.
as i can see my mac os x disc, does anyone have any advice on which files to alter/delete to enable a boot from the mac os install disc?
failing that, is there a way to reformat my mac os partition and reinstall mac os without touching the bootcamp partition? (that way i could move a lot of files onto the xp partition to save them without having to burn a lot of dvds).

just to give other people info i was running xp from my bootcamp partition on build 3150. the crash happened as windows was installing downloads and i tried to get a usb drive to work. i managed to shut down the vm to the point where the 'it is now safe to turn off your computer page' before os x crashed with the 'you need to restart your computer' message.
