need a quick answer on window7 and parallel desktop

I am trying to install windows 7 on an imac with Parallel Desktop 5, and am getting the error that the windows verification code is invalid.

so i am assuming i need a full blown windows code to get it to work, correct?

and if so why?

i have paid for the windows so now i have to go buy it again to get this program to work?

very frustrating, considering non where on the product box for parallel does it make that mention.
