Network MAC address

After installation of a Scientifix Linux OS in a windows 7 guest OS I've tried to change the MAC address of Scientific Linux virtual machine but half address looks fixed (also the GENERATE button change only the last part of the address). Why is not possible change the full MAC address ??

First half of a MAC address is actually an identifier of the manufacturer of the hardware...that may have something to do with it...

You can change the mac address in Scientifix Linux OS. Just follow this steps..

#vi /etc/sysconfig/network-script/ifcfg-eth0

After running this command you will get that mac address of this adapter. Press i for append mode and change the mac address.
