Network Sharing Question

Greetings,

My MacBook is on a school network. That network is currently having problems and issues with connection and speed. It has been pointedly suggested to me that my computer may be the problem. They claim that my parallels shared internet connections are acting as the DHCP server for others on the network. This is messing up the normal DHCP server for the network.

Realizing my description lacks the technical jargon that may be necessary to answer the question, here it is. Is this true? A possibility? Bunk?

Hi,

No, that's not true for the Shared Networking (by the way, your description is very clear and correct). It acts only for the Virtual Machines. It is relatively easy to check:

Install on some machine in school network packets dump tool, for example http://www.wireshark.org and start dumping (menu capture->interfaces->start). To easy catch DHCP-traffic, type in the "Filter" edit-box of WireShark word "DHCP" (without quotes) and press apply.

If all settings are default for the VM of Parallels Desktop, then all traffic from Parallels Desktop and its VMs have value of Source in dump starts with 00:1C:42:...
