New 27' iMac i7 = Issues

I have spent the last 2 days doing very in depth troubleshooting of this issue. I'm running some software CAD software on Windows 7 and XP through a Parallels VM. We have had no issues for years until we purchased the new i7 iMacs. Once we did, using the previously working VM's would cause Windows to crash when using this software. Basically opening two files with the software would cause the VM exit right to the start up screen, I can only assume Windows locked up.

I know for sure that the issue is with the new i7 computers because I was able to use the same hard drive in another computer (non i7) without any issue. I was also able to put the iMac (i7) into target disk mode and use that drive to boot a non i7 iMac and did not have an issue. The same exact VM's on the same exact drives function fine in non i7 machines. I have tried rebuilding the VM's, different i7 machines, using XP or Windows 7, using more/less RAM and CPU, changing some of the default parallels performance settings, etc.

I can get it Windows (7 and XP) to constantly exit (crash) and come back to the startup Windows VM screen doing certain functions with this software.

Is anyone seeing i7 related issues?
 
I am having similar issues. I have recently purchased the 27" i7 and all my existing and new VM's no longer work. For existing VM's I can boot into them but as soon as I click anywhere on the screen the screen seems to freeze. Also when I try to install new VM's (tried Win 7 32 & 64 so far) I get to the first Windows install screen and the same thing happens. I try to select keyboard layout, which works for the first 2 seconds and then the screen freezes.

Logging a ticket with Parallels now.
 
FranzL, i'm not sure we have the same issue as my VM's appear to work until I do something processor/video intensive. I have a ticket open as well and they don't have an answer yet. Good luck
 
Fixed!

Hi, just an update. I got the following instructions from Parallels. After I followed them everything seemed to work. Hope this helps you.


1) Un-install Parallels Desktop completely using terminal. To do so please follow the steps in the below mentioned link:

2) Please perform the repair disk permission.
a) Quit all application on Mac.
b) Open a new finder window, Application > Utilities > Disk Utility.
c) Under disk utility, select 'Mac HD' from side menu.
d) Click on 'Repair Disk Permission'.

3) When the Repair Disk Permission is completed, please install the Parallel Desktop.To do so, please download the fresh copy of parallels desktop 6 for Mac from the below mentioned link:

After this please try to create to create new Virtual Machine by following the below mentioned link:

Please double click on the existing .Pvm file.
