yes, I know there are 101 threads about this on the forums, but I have yet to find a solution that works.

I have a brand new copy of Windows XP Home (yes, I'm out $200) and build 1848. I got Parallels set up just fine, but when I go to install XP I have issues. In fact I had similar issue when I installed bootcamp. I throw my XP CD in the drive spins it, tries to look at it, spins it again and then spits it out! I solved it in Bootcamp by holding down the option key while I booted and got the install to work.

I've tried everything I've read on the forum: made the cd the 1st in boot sequence, changed teh IDE to 0:0 and 0:1, cleaned the cd....again the same ejection thing happened with bootcamp....does anyone have any ideas on this one? :confused:
 
Are you on a macbook?

I just got my Macbook back after two weeks of being worked on (via dispatch) in TN. Prior to this, it would do the same thing you mentioned and also scratch the disks. Apple replaced the topcase and the CD drive, and now all is well but it was a bit of a hassle.

Might want to check the surface of the CDs you are using and make positively sure they are not scratching. Make a disk image copy on another machine if so, and call Apple (again, if so.)

Since it's spitting it out in both parallels installs and bootcamp, I'm willing to bet it's hardware-related (i.e., the CD drive).
 
It seems to me I remember something about having to make a CD image of some XP disks to get the install to work. I think I had to do that if I remember right. I had to mount the image as an ISO file. Does anyone else remember this?
