No Internet in preinstalled Debian Image

Hi guys,

I am fairly new to Linux.

Just installed the Parallels downloadable Debian image, and I am trying to get the internet going so I can install a GUI.

I can log in as root, but 'apt-get update' fails with a connection error

I cannot ping my router either.

My XP VM has always worked fine, I have tried the Debian VM on all 3 network settings with still no luck.

Oh and my XP VM is off while I am testing too.

Check that network settings are set to Shared Network, restart VM, and test internet connection
