OSX VPN connection not shared with guest OS

I'm running XP in Parallels 5 under OSX 10.6.2 and when I connect to my company VPN via the built-in client in OSX, it works fine, but if I try to reach the same IPs from the guest OS it fails.

This worked in 4 just fine.

Any tips?
 
The trouble is likely in DNS.

For the first, make sure that you are using Shared Networking.

Second thing, is that build 9220 doesn't see some dns-servers of VPN. It is an issue of this build and it goes to be fixed in the nearest updated of Parallels Desktop 5.0.

Please connect to the VPN on Mac side and take a look into Mac OS "System Preferences" -> "Network". There should be an entry for the established VPN-connection and this VPN connection should have DNS server. This server should be manually entered to the Windows:

at Windows-side, open LocalAreaConnection preferences -> TCP/IP v4 -> and make this dns-server be Primary DNS Server. Secondary should be 10.211.55.1 - Parallels Shared Networking DNS server.

Let me know if you have troubles. We'll create a support-ticket in this case and investigate the problem more closely.
 
It isn't DNS, because I can't ping the network even by IP.

There is a separate issue with DNS under OSX and Snow Leopard which is annoying, but it does still work by IP.
 
DNS isn't an issue - there's no IP connectivity. I can't ping any of the IPs on the VPN from the guest OS, but I have no problem from within OS X.

Is there a specific way I should set up networking on the guest OS side that I might be missing?

Would you mind about remote session to your computer? We'd want to investigate the issue more closely.

Problems with shared connection in PD5.0.9308

Were you able to get this resolved?

I seem to be having the same problem, although it worked prior to upgrading to PD5.0.9308. My VPN connection was working fine this morning (via the Shared connection). Then Parallels was updated (scheduled update, hadn't booted in a few weeks) to PD5.0.9308. After the update was run, my OSX VPN connection is no longer shared. I tried the DNS trick, but my VPN software (I am using Cisco) either does not create an adapter or does not set a DNS server if it does (the only possible virtual adapter I saw had no DNS Server entered).
 
Found a solution

Hi all,

I thought I might share with you that I actually found a solution to this issue.

However, I'm not completely sure what was broken but what I did was:

I installed Windows XP as a bootcamp partition and I upgraded Parallels to the latest version (5.0.9344) and after that everything worked.

I'm not sure if it was the new installation or the Parallels upgrade or both in combination that did the trick but try it out - maybe it will work for you too :-)
