    help please!

upon initial install of parallels 3 everything seemed to go smoothly - the convert, the boot, and then the parallels tools install window popped up as i expected.
however it completely hung about 1/2 way through install - i waited 1/2 hour and then eventually the 'this program is not responding' dialog came up and i ended its misery.

now i can neither uninstall nor install the tools.

the installer (or uninstaller) hangs at 4 bars on the status bar.

    help!

coherence doesn't work and resolution does not resize.

    what can i do?

    (macbook 2ghz, 2gb ram, 14gb free on the h/d)

    thanks,
    nick

    Hello lasrever
Try to reinstall parallels 3.0 tools in the safe mode. (Hold fn + F8 key during windows loading)

Ankou, I tried safe mode, but am still getting the error about Resolution Tool; filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect.

Does installation in the safe mode complete successfully?

Unfortunately no. I have posted the screen cap in another thread that contains the error.

still bombing out in safe mode.
only gets to two status bars before hanging - no disk activity, no nothing...

    any other thoughts?

PD is having a really hard time updating my VM from 2.5. It just crashed, in fact. A snippet from the crash log:

    Exception: EXC_BREAKPOINT (0x0006)
    Code[0]: 0x00000002
    Code[1]: 0x00000000

    Thread 0 Crashed:

This happened while the tools installer was running.

I have this same crash when trying to install the tools on a new VM just created this afternoon.

So far I've not had any luck at all getting 3.0 to work. I'm extremely, extremely disappointed! This is the first update (including betas) that hasn't worked great for me, and it's a complete disaster.

I posted on another thread that I am having the same problem installing Tools. I just tried installing Tools in Safe Mode and Parallels crashed at the same point just before finishing up the install.

Parallels 3 - What a piece of crap!

I posted on another thread too. I tried booting in safe mode but still no ability to move mouse or use keyboard. Parallels will capture and release but just can't move it.

Version mismatch dialog when installing tools / 3.0 / XP

    Hi,

We are having the same problem.

Tools installation crashes the Parallels desktop on an existing XP VM.
This has happened on two seperate VMs.
It also caused a MacOS panic. Definitely not a happy camper about that one.

    Tried safe mode as well.

Twice we have seen a tools version mismatch dialog. Attaching a png of one of these.
Looked at the about dialog - version 3.0
Looked at the tools iso image - no version information available. <sigh>

Hard to believe. Had Parallels take a picture of the screen (png).
Just tried to attach it to this post - TOO BIG
Made it a gif - now size is ok. Dimensions are TOO BIG
Can't make the dimensions work - no one could read it.
Another try - grabbed the text... hope you can read it.

The information about the tools iso image:

date 6/9/2007 time 12:27 pm size 9.5 MB

    Hope this helps...

    Any ideas?

    Cheers,

    Hi guys

I had the same problem, both on 4124 and 4128, then I found the following tip on MacUpdate (http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/21252/parallels-desktop):
delete the contents of Program Files/Parallels/Tools while booted in Safe Mode, then do a custom reinstall of the tools WITHOUT "Shared Applications". Solves all symptoms for me.

Finally! Thanks for the post, this worked like a charm for me too! :D

Now I can stop pulling my hair out and actually start using parallels again ..
