Parallels 4.0 extreme network config

Having some issues surrounding network configuration.
I have parallels workstation extreme 4.0 (4.0.6402 rev 415241) installed on an HP Z800 workstation that has two onboard NICs.

I was hoping to use one for my host OS (Win XP x64) and one for my guest OS (Ubuntu 9.04) utilising the Intel VT-d chipsets direct assignment.
This machine is on a network with an existing DHCP server that I need to use to allocate the IPs to this machine.

I have allocated the network card to to the virtual machine (virtual machine -> configure -> network adaptor -> enabled & direct assignment (using Intel VT-d)
but the only way I can appear to assign an IP to it is via the network preferences where I can make my host OS a dhcp server, but no option to let an external DHCP server work. Even when 'DHCP server' is unticked, the IP that gets assigned is in the range specified in the Network prefs

This also appears to be where I have to set my host OS IP as well as when I try to check my TCP/IP settings for the primary NIC in Windows (host OS), I get an error that states "In order to configure TCP/IP, you must install and enable a network adaptor card"

So - is there a way to have an external DHCP server allocate an IP for:
1. the host OS after parallels is installed
2. the guest OS

Help! :)
 
more on this issue - I've noted that in my host OS, if I do an ipconfig /all, I don't even see my primary network card at all - but I do the Parallels host only network adaptor (description: parallels virtual nic 1) and its been assigned the 2nd IP in the range specified in the network preferences (despite the dhcp setting being turned off)
So maybe my now hidden non VT-d assigned NIC has the first IP in the range?

I hadn't been able to look at this machine for a while due to other obligations, but got back to it today.
after some messing around with guest/host assignments for the network card in the vt-d menu, I have finally managed to get things looking ok for both the host and guest with IPs being allocated (via our DHCP which looks for known MAC addresses)
I still have two parallels virtual NICs that also have IPs - one is using the first IP from the range listed in network prefs and the other is getting some 10.x.x.x IP from goodness knows where.
So it looks like this:
broadcom nic #1 192.168.20.118 (guest machines NIC (assigned via vt-d)) not visible on host OS
broadcom nic #2 192.168.20.117 (host machines NIC)
Parallels virtual NIC #0 10.37.130.2 ??? no idea what is going on here?
Parallels virtual NIC #1 192.168.20.119 (currently and gettings its IP from the network prefs dhcp range)
So now that i have this all working, I'll have another shot at getting ubuntu going again.

The Parallels Adapters (vnic#0 and vnic#1) serves for (correspondingly) SharedNetworking and HostOnly networking. Their usual addresses (until they aren't changed in GUI) are 10.37.130.2 (for Shared) and 10.37.131.2 (for HostOnly)

I'm not familiar with GUI of Workstation Extreme, but for Mac OS there is a combo in Network Preferences and it allow to setup DHCP-ranges for both Shared and HostOnly separately

PS: Sorry, I'm not very familiar with VTD (but anyway - seems your problem is already resolved)
