Parallels 5 freezes during initial VM configuration

Just got my new imac, installed windows xp via bootcamp. Then ran parallels and it showed me an initial configuration thingie for this VM.

It's been stuck on step 1 for well over 2 hours now, I was able to use a button to go into manual configuration but all this does it show me windows xp starting and then ending in a blue screen, then it simply returns to the configuration screen again, still showing it's at step 1 of 4. There is no way to quit the program as it keeps saying you must do all 4 steps. I suppose I could do a force quit but I'm unsure if there are any bad consequences.... Ideas?

same problem here ...

... simply cannot get Parallels to accept my (Vista) boot camp partition ... any ideas?
 
Dear Ari and RB,

I've got a current gen quad-core iMac with a Vista Boot Camp installation on it. Had no trouble at all installing Parallels 5 and virtualizing the BC Vista partition. No hangups; Parallels saw it without any trouble. The resulting VM runs fine, although I'm seeing more of a performance hit than I think I should.

I've no idea why you guys are having a problem. I'm assuming all the usual plugged-ins have been honored-- clean install of Parallels, latest version of OS's and programs, etc. But just in case, try uninstalling Parallels, reinstalling it with the the most current build from the website, and maybe you'll get one of those 'magic fixes.'

If not, I'm stumped.

Yes ... I had done a number of reinstalls of just about everything you could imagine at the time. What finally worked was downloading a competing product (somehow, my last post with the name of the product seems not to have made it in), which had no problems loading up the OS and also fixed things for my Parallels VM ... magically.
