    Hi all,

I am new to this forum. I have an aging dell 610 which runs my entire life. It is time to move up and the MacBook pro looks like a nifty option, provided Parallels would really allow me to "migrate" my whole system to a virtual machine. I have about 16 Gigs of stuff, including programs which will not run on the Mac. I also use a PDA (Palm OS) and a RAZR cellphone (Phone tools) and Itunes. Finally, I have a home wifi network, though my Dell is directly hooked up to the Cable Modem, and I use my computer docked more than half the time, the dock being connected to a printer, a cable modem, speakers, a video montor, a UBS external Hard Drive and a UBS Palm synch coinnection.

My question is will Parallels really work. How hard is it to get it going. I assume that Microsoft Office files made under windows can be read by the Mac off an external drive and used on Office Mac. I also assume that my Quicken files from windows could be opened again off an external drive by the Mac version. Finally, I assume that I can somehow transport my Itunes folders from an external drive to run on the Mac. So there is no need to go down the parallels road for these items.

The problem is I have stock software and legal office (calendar, schedule etc.,) which does not run on a Mac. I would like to keep this for the time being. I would also like to be able to run those dozens of little programs you accumulate and don't think about after 5 years on a windows machine (astronomy programs, games, utilities).

I have watched this forum for a few days and there do seem to be lot of big and little bugs in Parallels.

I propose to transport my entire Dell 610 to a VM running in Parallels. How likely am I to succeed without major hassels. (E.g. I currently use a parallel printer but the Mac only likes UBS printer connections. I currently have a number of conduits in my palm synch folder some of which synch to apps which are not also available in the Mac environment. )

So, if I use parallels to transport my whole machine to a VM and then try to mount parallels, what are the odds windows will work on the first or second try???

Appreciate any advice.......(E.g. I should probably turn off all TSR's before running the transporter program, and probably undock my laptop etc.)

I have never had any problem installing parallels (did it on 3 mac's).

    Transponder works fine.

You can download trial and try it :)
