I run an old iMac mid 2007 just for windows programmes, as I don't want to put Parallels on my main work Mac. It is running El Capitan. I have Parallels 10 for Mac (10.4.0) and Windows Vista Ultimate installed and they were working well together for a couple of years until recently. For no obvious reason when i double click on a file which can only be opened with a PC only genealogy programme I get the message '(C) Windows Vista Ultimate can't be opened because the original item can't be found'. When I try to link Parallels to an existing Virtual Machine (File>New) via the Wizard I get 'there was a problem connecting to the server "local host". I'm now stuck.
