I am using Parallels Desktop 3.0 for Mac Build 5600 under OS X 10.5.2 with Windows XP as the VM OS. Until today, all was working fine, but now Parallels hangs a short time after booting up XP. I can get, e.g., Outlook to open and it seems to be working OK and then suddenly I get the (Mac) beachball and the application becomes unresponsive. I've tried leaving for a while (30 minutes) to see if it resolves itself, but no luck. Only way forward is to force-quit. Parallels is still running and consuming over 100& CPU (it's on a dual core). Can anyone give me any ideas how to proceed with finding the cause?
I have a similar problem that I can't find a solution to. In my case, I cannot even force quit Parallels, I have to reboot the MacBook
As a first step please download build 5608 following link bellow: http://download.parallels.com/v3/en/GA/Parallels-Desktop-5608-Mac-en.dmg and reinstall Parallels Desktop as described in kb http://kb.parallels.com/en/4790
I followed your procedure but after about 6 hours of running time, Parallels froze again. Note that I was not using any Windows apps during that time
Please try to disable power management in Windows, also please recall , what software installed in Windows and in mac recently
I have not installed anything in Windows recently. On the Mac side, the most recent changes were upgrades to MacOS X 10.5.3 and then to 10.5.4. I had the problem in 10.5.3 as well as in 10.5.4. Also, I upgraded Parallels to build 5600 and then 5608.
As far as the Windows power management, I have not checked "Enable Advanced Power Management support". Is there anything else you want me to turn off?
Set everything to never http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/setup/learnmore/russel_02march25.mspx
Start Application Monitor, and check what Application takes CPU when you are running Parallels, and make sure you are not using Share Screen, or VNC
Parallels just hung again. Activity Monitor shows that Parallels was using 29% of the CPU, nothing else was using more than 5%.
Is there enough disk space on Mac what is in crash logs? what is in logs /Library/Parallels/bugreports/ or ~/Library/Parallels/bugreports/
I have 50 GB free disk space on the Mac. There were no files in /Library/Parallels/bugreports/ and I do not have a ~/Library/Parallels/bugreports folder
I suppose you need to create ticket in support and we will ask additional logs, from Windows also, By the way, if you are using Shared Profile , please try to disable it
