Parallels loses access to disk

I use Parallels Desktop 3.0 build 5584 (freshly downloaded at Tech Support's direction on 2/14)

I got this unpleasant message box, when Parallels had been long idle, not even the frontmost application:
Parallels%20File%20System%20Timeout.jpg

Clicking "Keep Trying" is no help, so I hit "Force Eject". Promptly crashed my Mac with the Dim Screen of Death ("You need to restart your Mac").

Upon rebooting the Mac, I tried Parallels again, got this message:
Parallels%20disk%20config%20messup.jpg

So I tried rebooting into Windows directly. Works fine. Worked in it for a long time. Back to MacOS and Parallels. Windows boots to a black screen, no further progress. Try one more time. This time I am offered "Safe Mode" as an option, I take it. As a result, I can see the details of the booting process. It gets as far as
Parallels%20boot%20hang%20details.jpg

and that's the end of that. Stuck.

Help! This is the second such episode. The prior such episode I paid $29 for phone support and was instructed to uninstall, download the very latest secret bugfix version of 5584, and reinstall. Worked, for a while. But this is not workable! What can I do?
