Parallels on Mac in a Windows network

Hello all,

I am new to Parallels and this forum so sorry if this has been covered earlier.

I have a mac in an 80 PC/Windows environment and a Microsoft Windows network. With the Mac I can connect to the network and I get an 192. etc IP-number. No Problem. However with Windows under Parallels I get a 10. etc IP-number and cannot connect to the network (but I can connect to the internet). I don´t know where to start looking for the problem. Can anyone help?

The IT-guys here are not very helpful (don´t think they know how). Finding the network under Windows/Parallels is vital.

sounds like youre using shared networking, not sure why its causing you an issue, but try switching your networking to Bridged in Devices > Network
 
Look under Preferences-> Network. It defaults to a 10.x.y.z range, but you can change it. As Darkone suggested, bridged networking would probably get around the problem most easily. I wonder why Parallels defaults to shared networking when so many questions on this forum get resolved by switching to bridged...

Problem solved. I had switched in networking to Bridged as the manual said. And under Emulation I had choosen en0: Ethernet Adapter as the manual said. Several times. No go. Now I went back and left it at Default Adapter and... Voila - it works.

One shouldn´t always read/trust the manuals.

Glad to hear you got it sorted out.

FWIW, I've done the same thing, but in a different scenario. In my case, I discovered that the Default Adapter was defaulting to Ethernet, which wasn't connected to anything. Once I manually set it to use the AirPort NIC all was well.
 
Glad I stumbled across this thread. My network uses 192.168.213.x but the Windows "Parallels Network Adapter" was using 10.x. I checked the Device -> Network Adapter 1 setting and found that nothing at all was checked. It had options for Connect and Disconnect, neither of which were checked, and I didn't see anything about Bridged or Shared, just selections for Default, en0 (LAN) and en1 (AirPort) I selected Default, which grayed out the Connect and Default settings on the menu. ZoneAlarm gave me a message that a new network had been found and the Parallels Adapter is now using a 192.168.213.x address as given by my router. Internet access is a lot faster now - I assumed that the slow access was because I had two operating systems using the same adapter and it was just something I would have to live with.
