    Hello,

Using Windows 8.1U1 guest. Upgraded to Parallels 11, booted the guest OS and Parallels Tools installed. On the next reboot of the guest after tools install the Guest will no longer start.

The startup gets no further than the BIOS splash page and claims it cannot boot from the the hard disk (this sends it into an annoying reboot loop by the way which Parallels pops up a window to helpful tell you about on each loop... the popup prevents you from pressing anything because it pops back too quick!)

Anyway the book disk is attached so I can only assume that Parallels Tools has some how affected the book ability of that disk!?

    Any ideas?

so I logged a support ticket. they tried to help. the Virtual HDD is corrupted. Might not be recoverable!

Please backup your VMs before upgrading Parallels to V11!

    Hello.

Thank you for the suggestions. However after working with the Parallels Support team I have found that Parallels Tools 11 cannot boot from the C drive of this Windows 8.1 VM because its encrypted with Checkpoint Endpoint Security.

This was find in Parallels 10 with Tools V10 and after downgrading to Version 10 the VM boots without any issues. Interestingly the VM boots with Parallels 10 with Tools 11 before the automatic tools downgrades its self to V10, reboots and still continues to work.

So the issue its some combination of Parallels 11 and Tools 11 with Checkpoint Encryption.

I am now waiting for L2 support to work with the developers on the issue. Not timeline. In the meantime I cannot use the Parallels 11 I just paid for. Not great! :(

I have the same issue with McAfee disk encryption - install parallels tools and reboot, and the hdd fails:
as in "McAfee Endpoint Encryption Fatal Error: 0xEE820006] Getting Disk Info"

This is a critical issue that needs addressing, and I must say Very poor form!

The cause of this issue is Hard drive incompatibility. To resolve this issue, Change the virtual hard drive interface from SATA to IDE.
To change hard drive interface go to Configure > Hardware > Hard Disk 1 > Advanced Settings and change Location.
We have mentioned the same on our article here.

    Hello,
Did this work for the McAfee encryption? It does not solve the Checkpoint encryption issue. Level 2 support confirmed this to be an issue in V11 tools. I have now found that it is an issue in V12 after upgrading yesterday.
Why aren't Parallels tackling these long standing issues?
