Parallels Tools install/remove error

After recent update to Build 6.0.12106 (Revision 692267; September 7, 2011), automatic Tools installation in my Win7 guest stopped with:

"Error 1402.Could not open key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE32\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\InternetSettings\ZoneMap\Domains\psf. Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel."

The "Parallels Tools are installed" icon appears in the strip at the bottom of the window, and all seems to be operating the same as before the update - except today I noticed that the Win7 clock was a a couple of days behind, i.e., the Time: Synchronize with Mac setting in Configure::Advanced is no longer working.

Virtual Machine::Reinstall Parallels Tools has no apparent effect -- nothing happens after clicking Yes in the confirm dialog box except that dialog box disappears.

Removing Parallels Tools via the Win7 Control Panel's Programs and Features fails with the same 1402 error as cited above.

My Win7 user account is an Administrator account.

regedit.exe shows no HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE32 at the top level, but drilling down from HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE shows no sub-keys of ...\ZoneMap\Domains.
 
Also, Parallels will not shut down the guest. I get a "click-to-resume" screen with an unfamiliar background; clicking gets me the Win7 login as if I had asked to switch users. It will shut down OK from within Win7.
 
I have to say, the support here is just amazing ... ly non-existent.

Meanwhile, can anyone explain what Step 7 in http://kb.parallels.com/en/9379 means? First, what is "the 'Administrator' tab"? I don't see any tabs in the Permissions for ... dialog box except "Security". (Edit: from Steps 5 and 9.2, it seems that the author of the KB article doesn't know what "tab" means; still I don't understand how to accomplish Step 7:) When I press the Add button, I get another dialog box titled "Select Users or Groups" with three fields--
--Select this object type;, which has "Users, Groups, or Built-in security principals" pre-filled;
--From this location:, which has STEVENBRECH7830 pre-filled with a Locations button to the right, which when clicked shows STEVENBRECH7830 as the only choice;
--Enter the object names to select (examples [link]):, which is an empty text box with a disabled Check Names button to the right
...and an Advanced... button at the bottom, the result of clicking which I won't even try to describe.

My "Permissions for Domains" dialog box has four entries in Group or user names:
CREATOR OWNER
SYSTEM
Administrators (STEVENBRECH7830\Administrators)
Users (STEVENBRECH7380\Users)

The last three all have Full Control checked in the Allow column underneath.

I am fairly sophisticated w/r software, being a developer, but I am not sophisticated enough to understand all the intricacies of the Windows access control system, and don't think I should have to be to run a few Windows apps on my Mac.

I managed to get the Tools updated by restoring a working 6.0.12095 and using regedit more-or-less as indicated in the KB article cited above. In addition to adding accounts/groups to the ...\ Wow6432Node\...Domains permissions, I added the two sub-keys I found there, psf and .psf, with their values, to the Domains key cited in the 1404 error message.

Then I updated to 6.0.12106.

Total time wasted: about 4 hours.

Do you mean it does not shut down VM when you shut down Mac? it is how it has been designed. Instead of shutting down Windows, Parallels suspends it and revoke as soon as you start Mac OS.

No, I meant it didn't shut down Win7 when the Virtual Machine::Shut Down menu item was chosen.

I'm having the exact same problem as brec, but I'm afraid I'm not as savvy as he/she is. So I suppose just uninstalling Parallels Desktop and then installing the older version should get my Tools and Coherence Mode back? It would mean I'd be stuck with that older version though.

Been there, tried that and it didn't work. The downloaded thingies can't find the correct paths or something like that and looking manually through the regedit stuff won't work either because the paths from the example aren't there. Which is probably why the scripts can't be run successfully.

Like I said, exactly the same issue as brec had that wasn't really answered, I'm afraid. Same Parallels version as well.
