Parallels Tools Installation

I've looked through FAQ's and searched the forum and cannot find a solution to my problem.
I purchased Parallels 4.0 a few months ago, and installed Windows XP on my macbook. Everything seemed to be working fine until i tried to use the internet via the VM. Internet works great in OSX, but will absolutely not work in XP. After looking through other threads, I decided i will try to reinstall parallels tools. I went to control panel in XP and removed parallels tools, as advised in another thread. When i go to reinstall it, it does nothing. I have gone into the VM menu, and chosen install parallels tools, and nothing happens.
I went into the Library -> Parallels -> and No parallels tools folder/file.

Any advise is appreciated

There are at least two "Library" folders, one is /Users/<username>/Library/Parallels/ and the second is /Library/Parallels/Tools/, you need the second one, the file itself is prl-tools-win.iso you can also try searching for it using the Spotlight.

Finally, you can reinstall Parallels using the latest DMG package, that would recreate the Tools folder as well:

thanks, i will try this when i get off of work
if i download the new parallels, will it just overwrite the current one, as in will i have to reinstall windows?

Well, reinstalling parallels tools worked, kind of.
The internet will connect, occasionally, and when it does, it is slow as can be.
why is this? I just want to be able to run windows in full screen mode and run applications that my need to use the internet, and not have to jump back and fourth from the two and just have it work.
 
Can you tell me what is the network mode that you currently have?

You can look for it in Virtual machine -> Configure -> Network Adapter 1.

If you currently have Bridged Ethernet selected then I would suggest to change the network mode to Shared Networking as it is generally faster.
Also, it is important to know what kind of a network connection do you have, i.e. is it a Lan, modem or something else.
And it is also not clear how do you test the network performance, it could be more of a trouble with a performance of Windows overall.
You can test the connection speed using www.speedtest.net for example. (Although you might need to be in bridged networking mode for that), If you are familiar with command shell you can test the network performance with "ping" or "tracert" commands.
And finally, antivirus or firewall software may affect the network performance. You can try temporary disabling or uninstalling them and see if it makes a difference.
