I'm having issues with posting the whole log....I will send it to whomever via e-mail if someone can help me.
Hello Eemn825, Please sorry for the answer delay. Thank you for the log. I am going to ask a specialist on the issue and will let you know as soon as possible. Best regards, Xenos
Hello Eemn825, You should uninstall Parallels this way: Go to Finder - Applications - Utilities - Terminal. Type and run the following commands: • sudo rm /System/Library/Extensions/vmmain.kext • sudo rm /System/Library/Extensions/hypervisor.kext • sudo rm /System/Library/Extensions/Pvsvnic.kext • sudo rm /System/Library/Extensions/ConnectUSB.kext • sudo rm /System/Library/Extensions/Pvsnet.kext • sudo rm -rf /Library/Parallels/ • sudo rm ~/Library/Preferences/com.parallels.* Before you run these commands, please make sure that your VM hdd and pvs files are NOT stored in ~/Library/Parallels. Reboot your Mac and reinstall Parallels, build 3214. Best regards, Xenos
uninstall/reboot/reinstall does not work for me I've tried uninstalling as suggested. I've restarted my iMac, then reinstalled parallels. I get the same (perceived) problem. Unable to start at all. I've downloaded the recommended build from the web site but am still unable to log in. It can really pay to update to 3.* and build 5584 when 3.0 came out it was a bit scary so I cloned my VM and used the clone in 3.0 I keep on, and run from, my VM on two external La Cie 800 firewire disks (still got one unchanged clone of my 2.5 VM just in case I need it) because it is Saturday I am cleaning up my VM with http://onecare.live.com/ (which I get from a toolbar button http://onecare.live.com/site/en-gb/scanner/default_scan.htm ) next breakfast and then shopping - and cloning the clean VM to each of the external HD Happy Easter Hugh W
As I mentioned, I downloaded/installed the recommended build from the website. I initially purchased version 3.0 so am not upgrading from 2.5. I've only ever had 3.0. Any other thoughts/suggestions?
any suggestions? I'm about ready to go with vmware instead as I need access to a windows machine occasionally, and this is ridiculous. I have build 5584. I disabled spaces. I disabled time machine. What else is there? I would love to find out that I messed something up (when I followed directions to the letter when removing and reinstalling parallels), so if that's the case, please tell me...
Hello, Fornelli, could you attach a screenshot of the error message you get? If Parallels crashes, please let me see the crash log (not Explorer.log): ~/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/Parallels.crash.log Best regards, Xenos
Fornelli, this crash log is from the build 4128. Are you sure that you are using 5584 now? Here is how you can check this: launch Parallels, click Parallels Desktop in the menu bar, choose "About Parallels Desktop" from the drop down menu. If you are on the build 5584, please attach the corresponding crash log. Best regards, Xenos
Interesting.... I uninstalled the version that was on my system after downloading the 5584 build by doing the following: • sudo rm /System/Library/Extensions/vmmain.kext • sudo rm /System/Library/Extensions/hypervisor.kext • sudo rm /System/Library/Extensions/Pvsvnic.kext • sudo rm /System/Library/Extensions/ConnectUSB.kext • sudo rm /System/Library/Extensions/Pvsnet.kext • sudo rm -rf /Library/Parallels/ • sudo rm ~/Library/Preferences/com.parallels.* I then restarted my system, and installed the 5584 build. So, I would think I am running the 5584 build, however the log shows differently. Sadly, I am not able to get parallels desktop to start at all, so cannot get to the menu bar, so cannot check the "About Parallels Desktop" from the drop down menu. The crash log I sent was the latest one (chonologically) so I am assuming it is the right one (it had the correct date on it, which was on my last attempt to run parallels desktop). When I get home this evening, I will delete all crash logs and attempt to start it again. One thing I should mention, I just realized that I had created a shortcut to my windows xp vm from the previous version of parallels I purchased. Could that be why it shows a different build number? I have tried starting from both that shortcut as well as just starting parallels desktop from the parallels application folder. Both seem to have the same results though.
up and running once again Xenos, thank you for pointing me in the right direction. Despite my downloading the 5584 build twice and installing it three of four times, the version I was running was old, as you pointed out. It seems the uninstall procedure did not fully uninstall everything. I ended up running the uninstaller that was in the download disk image, as well as running all the commands from the terminal. After doing that, I restarted my computer, then installed again (being sure to use the 5584 disk image). When the installation finished, I was able to start Parallels Desktop (from Applications/Parallels directory). I confirmed it was the 5584 build in the About Parallels Desktop menu. I was too afraid to try starting up with my windows xp shortcut. Thanks again for your help.
Hello Fornelli, Glad to know you have managed to work it out! Thanks for the feedback and good luck Best regards, Xenos
