Parallels window doesn't move when I unhook 2nd monitor

I run parallels in window mode (one window). When I unhook my 2nd monitor, where I typically have the Parallels window located, the Parallels window generally does not come over to the Macbook's display, unlike every other Mac app.

Last week it hopped over to the laptop screen by itself a couple of times, I was quite surprised. But then it quit doing that and reverted to old behaviour.

The only way I could figure out to get the window back is to hook a monitor back up and drag it over. If I kill the process and start over, it restarts on the other window, which is cool, but totally unhelpful in this case.

When I flipped it to Coherence mode to try to get it over, then back to Window mode, Parallels crashed.

Aside from not forgetting to bring the Parallels window back to the Macbook display, what's the right way to get that pesky parallels window back over where I can use it? I VPN in from the Windows side, so it's actually a pretty big deal when it's not working.

    Thank you
