Parallels window transparency

Ok, I installed Parallels Workstation 2.2, build 2222 in Ubuntu 7.10. I used Synaptic Package Manager, and it installed just fine.

It started fine, but once I started to create a new XP guest I ran into the transparency problem.

I found this thread:

And after making a backup of the file, I cut and paste the following into /usr/bin/parallels:

run="XLIB_SKIP_ARGB_VISUALS=1 /usr/lib/parallels/parallels-linux $@"

replacing:

run="/usr/lib/parallels/parallels-linux $@"

However, now when I attempt to start Parallels, I get the "Starting Parallels" in the panel, but Parallels never actually starts.

Any idea what I've missed?
 
Hello,

the point is that the solution you used had not been approved by Parallels and there is no guarantee that it should be safe.
I'd recommend you to revert to your backuped version.

We are investigating the transparency issue in-house, thank you for the information.

I think some of your post is missing - I'm not sure what point you are referring to.

As for going back to the backed up version - already done. I went back and forth several times testing. I was just hoping that somebody would point out something obvious that I missed - like "hey - did you uncheck the 'transparency' box?'.
