Parallels won't work at all.

I've installed it, restarted my computer when it tells me to, and when I click on parallels app it just bounces up and down on the dock a couple times, and absolutely nothing happens.

It has 2 vertical red lines going across the icon, don't know if thats supposed to be there.

Please, someone help soon, I have a load of really old games like homeworld and baldur's gate that I really want to play and if I can't play them i'll get very sad :(

Two verical red lines is a logo, it is perfectly normal.
As for Parallels. I would assume that this is version 4.0. The first thing to try: download the latest build from here, using the dmg file downloaded - uninstall the Parallels you have installed. Theb install it back using the same file.
If it would still do nothing, what would happen if you right-click (control-click) on the Parallels icon? Are there any options available?
Make sure that system requirements are met.
