Photoshop Activation Problem

I have Parallels running off my Boot Camp windows installation, and I couldn't be happier. It really is the best of both worlds for me.

I have one problem though - I use Photoshop CS2 in Boot Camp for the speed/calibration, and also in Parallels when I'm testing scripts for the convenience. My problem comes with the activation - I have to keep remembering to deactivate and reactivate in order to transfer it, as it recognises it as different hardware. I know you've managed to get round the Windows activation somehow - can the same be applied to Photoshop activation???
 
Activate in the VM, then shut it down. Then make a copy of the VM (at least the .hdd file). Next, restart the VM and deactivate. Shut down the VM, and restore the copy.

Now boot XP-bootcamp and activate.

Now it's activated in both places.

Alternative: Find a keygen and generate all the keys you need.
 
Thanks Joem, but I'm not using a hdd file, I'm running it off the Boot Camp partition, and I was hoping to avoid a 2nd install. Any ideas?
 
Sure. Get the Ashampoo uninstaller (http://www.ashampoo.com/frontend/products/php/product.php?session_langid=2&idstring=0403) and install it under bootcamp.

Deactivate CS2. Then start the uninstaller, and take a system snapshot. Activate CS2, and have the uninstaller find the differences. Capture them.

Then deactivate, boot the VM, activate, and boot bootcamp again.

Run another compare against your original deactivated (first snapshot) version, and again save the differences. If it's a file that's the difference, you're home free, just restore the proper file before starting. If it's a registry entry, you will have to make a couple of .reg files and run the appropriate one before starting CS2 each time.

The Ashampoo Uninstaller comes with a free trial, but I find it so useful that I bought it.
 
Wouldn't it be easier if Parallels simply took care of this issue in a future build? I plan to use Adobe CS2 in Boot Camp & Parallels and wouldn't want to have to circumvent the protection as you propose. CS2 does allow for 2 installs.. but this seems like a waste.

The CS2 activation mechanism allows for two concurrent activations. Do you have the same serial number activated on a third system?

Wouldn't it be easier if Parallels simply took care of this issue in a future build?

I would think this is pretty difficult without Parallels being privvy to the internal workings of Adobe's activations scheme - something which may also change from version to version of Adobe software.
 
I currently have CS2 installed on my old PC. I'm waiting until Parallels is stable (released) to install it in Boot Camp where I hoped I could keep it still installed on my old system and use it in Boot Camp and Parallels. As I wrote before, I'm aware I'm allowed 2 installs.. but it would mean removing it from my old XP system to also run it on my single Mac Pro.

This is a feature request - I'm nt sure if it's attainable or not... but I'd be remiss if this wasn't requested.

Are there any news on this issue? Is this going to be looked at by the Parallels team?

Right now I reactivate over and over again, which is okay for a certain time but becomes more and more annoying of course ;)

I love this application, best since sliced bread. My only beef is with the CS2 reactivation and the Office 2007 reactivation.

All other application I run, for example "Vue 6 Infinite", run perfect once activated under BootCamp and Parallels, no reactivation needed.
 
Yes, they told me to, about the "repair" activation. But I still hope they can tackle this problem within Parallels. After all the Adobe palette is pretty wide spread, as is or will be Office 2007 ;)

Right now I'm more concerned about my Office 2007 installation. It is still the trial version so I do not bother about clicking the "activation" button each time I switch from Parallels to BootCamp. But when I will buy the retail version I will be concerned.
