Physical CD/DVD Support a bit Quirky

Maybe this is just a classic case of PEBKAC, but I seem to struggle to get my physical CD/DVD drive bound to the VM. It worked once or twice with my XP CD, but thereupon I could never get it to work again.

After I select 'Use Real CD/DVD Drive', how does the dropdown list get populated? (mine doesn't). Alternatively, what can I type in manually to get it to work? (Unfortunately, the help file is still PC-centric, and refers to 'D:' )

(I am a recently converted PC->to->Mac user, so not that familiar with the /dev/ details)

I'm confused on that as well. I have a core duo mac mini with the superdrive and the 80 gig. I'm not sure which disks under /dev are what.
 
I too have had great trouble with physical CD/DVD drive recognition. The "Use real CD..." option is not available until I uncheck and recheck "enable" It's also grayed out under "add..."
Just once, an address appeared in the drop-down menu: " /dev/rdisk1s0" However, I changed something and it stopped working. I've tried reinstalling from scratch several times to no avail. So I'm currently creating disk images in order to instal software.

Solution?

entering /dev/rdisk1 has worked for me for installing XP straight from the CD, and boots the Solaris Nevada DVD. Still can't *install* Solaris yet, though =O(
 
I'm having probs on a MacBook ejecting the CD - the only fix I can find is to suspend the VM and eject - this is during an install when I have to change to CD 2 etc etc so its a real pain ....

With beta2, I have still the following problems with the access to physical CD/DVD :

DVDs, even data DVD, are not recognized by the virtual machine, with the following error when trying to connect the DVD : "Unable to open device/file Default CD/DVD-ROM". CDs are OK

It is not obvious to eject a CD from the virtual machine. Usually, I have to select "Eject" in the CD context menu 2 or 3 time in order to be able to eject the CD.
