Picassa 2 not working

I have a problem with Google Picassa 2 not working since I upgraded Parallels and/or OS X. Picassa hangs at the splash screen. I upgraded Parallels from I think version 3188 and at a similar time upgraded OS X to 10.4.10 and then noticed that Picassa stopped working. I then tried upgrading Parrallels to version 3, but the same - Picassa hangs at the splash screen. I have also tried reinstalling Picassa.

Parallels 3 4128
OS X 10.4.10
XP Home 2002 SP 2 with 752 MB of RAM allocated
 
Picasa works fine for me. I've done all the updates (not the version 3 upgrade), I've also updated mac to 10.4.10, and Picasa still is fine.

Maybe try making another windows virtual machine just to test picasa, or make sure you have the latest version of parallels. Do you have a backuped .hdd to try, by any chance?
 
Here's a thought: Since version 3188 and 10.4.10 may not be compatable with USB, and Picasa searches for USB, that may be the problem. Update parallels to build 3214 and try picasa.

Thanks for your reply. Picasa was working with 3188 and when I upgraded to 3214 it stopped. But as I said I also upgraded OS X to 10.4.10 at about the same time. But since you can run Picasa then maybe the problem is with one of my Picasa files and nothing to do with Parallels and OS X.
 
Picasa 2 not working in a different way...

I just installed Picasa 2 on a Windows Vista VM running build 3214 on OS X 10.4.10. I didn't have it installed before, but when I run it, it starts up just fine. If I copy pictures over to my virtual hard drive, Picasa indexes them just fine, but if I map a network drive to my Pictures folder in my Parallels Shared Folders, Picasa starts indexing the files and then Parallels freezes. The entire Parallels application starts taking up 100% of a CPU core and is completely unresponsive. I have to force quite Parallels in order to restart it and try again.

Shouldn't this work? Why is it crashing Parallels?
 
I have found how to get Picassa to work again. I had to completely uninstall it. Search for all files that had picasa in their name and delete them. Then re-install. Finally I re-indexed all my photos. This seems to work with 3.

elvo86 said he/she had trouble with a network drive. It is possible that this was the cause of the trouble I had. I use a network drive mapped to Pictures on the Mac. It is possible that when I upgraded to 3214 a problem with network drives and Picasa caused my problems.

I now have 3, 4128, and that seems fine. So maybe 3 fixes the problem. But as I said I had to remove all trace of Picasa before it would work again.

Is there a way to get this working without shelling out for Parallels 3? I don't really have any other need to.

I started with no traces of Picasa on Parallels 3124 and Mac OS X 10.4.10, and had problems right from the start.
 
I have experimented some more with Picasa and found I have a problem when I set the default destination for importing photos to P: (Mac Phictures via a networked drive). However I can reliably import to P:, I just can't have P: as the default. I am guessing that if you have P: as the default destination then it makes a tempory file on P: and when I have the default as Windows My Pictures it makes the tempory file in My Pictures. So I am speculating that the problem is with the temporary file on P:
 
I found a viable workaround.

I had had a network drive mapped to \\.PSF\MyUserName\ and Picasa was crashing all the time. I changed the network drive to be mapped to \\MyComputerName\MyUserName\ (using real networking, not Parallels pretend networking), and watched folders started working just fine. I haven't tried setting my default import destination to the network drive yet, but I don't have any more pictures to import right now. I'll test that later.

This is definitely still a bug in Parallels, but this workaround is manageable.
