Possible Virtual Disk corruption in Beta5

I've been running Beta5 after upgrading from beta4. I want to check on the following possible issue before upgrading to beta6 and/or reinstalling windows XP in my guest.

I've got issues where applications do not start because of broken executables and my Windows directory has plummented by ~500 Mb. Any tips?

My virtual disk became completely unusable due to corruption after a crash. I've since started using a 'Plain' virtual disk and although I've had crashes I haven't had any corruption.

I have no proof other than my own experience which seems to suggest that the 'plain' disk is a bit more robust than the 'expanding' disk. If you can spare the space I'd recommend using a 'plain' disk when you reinstall.
