Printing NIGHTMARE

hey -

any other ideas??

I just upgraded to 3.0 (might have been a mistake) and can't get printing to work by either of the proposed methods (using Bonjour or by adding Parallels Port).

So as to reduce questions:
- the printer works fine in mac os
- the printer worked fine in the older version of parallels
- i have printer sharing on
- i did not install a print driver in the guest OS

This is a mild disaster - has ANYONE been able to get printing working when both of these "solutions" fail?

help!!!

First I would try the obvious stuff.

Repair disk permissions in OSX.
Reboot the VM.
Reboot OSX.

If it doesn't work report back.

hey thanks!

i hadn't tried repairing permissions, but....

Oh geez - it's getting worse, after permission repair and full reboot now paralells isn't recognizing the internet connection, so isn't sharing it with mac OS.

Is this a really buggy upgrade? Was it a terrible mistake to install it?

Anyone suggest anything now?

Hello paulj
Try this:
Stop your Windows VM if it's running.
Open VM Configuration Editor (Parallels Desktop menu - Edit - Virtual Machine)
Add Parallel Port Printer to the VM Configuration: click "Add" - select "Parallel Port", hit Next - select "Use a printer" - select the printer you have available in the Mac OS.
Make sure that you are able to print using that printer from the Mac OS side.
Start Windows and try printing some document using "HP Color LaserJet 8500 PS" (it's generic driver that's being used for printing from the Virtual Machine to any Mac OS compatible printer).

I tried that again just for good measure - and it doesn't work. The printer appears, but i cannot get output. This has also frustrated my internet connection, as i've lost it entirely on the guest OS side.

yes, thanks. for the fun of it, i've restarted the printer, mac, windows, repaired permissions, uninstalled and re-installed paralells... now i'm at a total loss.

Is your print cartridge empty? (Just kidding)

Do you have your internet connection back? Sometimes switching from shared to bridged helps...or vice versa.
