prl_vm_app pegs CPU on host disk activity in shared directory

Anyone have any insight on this problem or how I can fix it?

Parallels Desktop 4.0.3848
Host: OS X 10.5.8
Guest: Windows XP SP3
Shared Folders are on.

In OS X, when I perform a disk intensive process (multi-file find on directories in my Home folder, which is shared with the guest OS), prl_vm_app pegs my CPU for the duration of the disk activity.

I'm pretty shocked. Parallels shouldn't care what I read on the host OS, and it certainly shouldn't peg my CPU. I'd also guess I'm not getting the read speed I should, since it's no longer bound by the disk speed but instead bound by whatever Parallels is doing to my poor CPU.
