Problem accessing USB TV receiver

Sorry for cross posting this, but I am not sure which Windows forum is the right one for this problem.

I am using Parallels build 5160 on my 15" MacBook Pro. Overall an incredibly impressive application!
I have been trying to install an AverTVHD Volar onto my Window XP, SP2, guest OS. There are no native drivers for this USB device for MacOSX.
Anyway, the USB device installs on Windows, and appears to be recognized. It shows up in the drivers list in Windows device manager. However, when I try to scan for available channels none are recognized. When I install this same device on a Windows notebook, it correctly recognizes the local digital and HD TV channels.
A couple of vague installation memories.
- I was asked at some point if I wanted to install the USB controller while in Windows guest mode. I said 'yes' and it now appears in the device list.
- During the installation of the Avermedia drivers and software there were a couple of error messages saying certain of the Parallel files were inaccessible. I think they started with something like "//.psf/.....". When I clicked retry the installation appeared to continue properly.
Any thoughts on what I can try to get this working?

unfortunately, it's unlikely that this device will work under Parallels. We'll consider adding such feature for future versions. Thank you for your feedback, it's very useful for us.

Well, I'm sort of not surprised. I got this adapter as an experiment in the first
place. Is there any rule of thumb on what kinds
of USB devices will work on the Windows XP guest environment? Do they have
to have drivers on the OSX host side?
The only other one I would like to use is a USB to serial converter for some
software on the Windows side to program my remote control.
Overall, I am beyond impressed with Parallels. It is amazing that the features of
Windows and OSX can be integrated so seamlessly to the user! Great job!

I was able to install OnAir GT (USB TV receiver) on Parallels... The hardware was recognized fine...

But then no picture showed up - I got something about video renderer problem and need to reinstall from software, which I suspect was related to graphich card driver problem or may be Direct X version limits....

Anyway, I have shelved the issue as one of those : I would not expect this to work anyway...
