    Hi,

    I recently reinstalled Parallels and now wanted to ad a custom Bootcamp config. Everything runs fine with the initial "C:" drive and booting to that.

    Now I wanted to ad two more HDs that I need the guest OS to have acess too (applications etc.). I manually edited my pvs file like I did formally. Now something really wierd happens. I save the file like below:

    Code:
    [System]
    Boot = c
    Parallels VM Name = Microsoft Windows XP
    VM Id = {c7f0d31d-cf9d-43f5-a2c6-fca6c771922d}

    From my experience this should work as is.

    But now when starting up the VM the Guest Os does not "see" the extra HDs at disk1. I quit the VM reopen then pvs file and it now looks like this:

    Code:
    [System]
    Boot = c
    Parallels VM Name = Microsoft Windows XP
    VM Id = {c7f0d31d-cf9d-43f5-a2c6-fca6c771922d}
    VM Description =
    OS Type = 135
    Memory = 1024

    Memory block size = 10
    Acceleration level = 2
    Enable write-back disk cache = 1
    VT-x support = 1
    Start auto = 0
    AutoShutdown = 0
    Start full screen = 22
    Start dashmode = 0
    Start full screen warning = 1
    PC Speaker enable = 1
    Window Mode = 2
    Multi frame = -1
    Guest Tools Status = 2
    [Shared folders]
    Shared folders enabled = 1
    Sharing enabled = 1
    Shared folders count = 0
    [Video]
    Video resolutions enabled = 1
    Video resolutions count = 0
    [Coherence]
    Show taskbar = 1
    Relocate taskbar = 0
    Exclude Dock = 1
    Multiple displays = 0
    [IDE devices]
    Disk 0:0 enabled = 1
    Disk 0:0 = 1
    Disk 0:0 media = 1
    Disk 0:0 connected = 1
    Disk 0:0 image = Boot Camp;disk0s3
    Disk 0:0 cylinders = 0
    Disk 0:0 heads = 0
    Disk 0:0 sectors = 0
    Disk 0:1 enabled = 1
    Disk 0:1 = 2
    Disk 0:1 media = 1
    Disk 0:1 connected = 1
    Disk 0:1 image = SONY DVD RW DW-D150A
    Disk 1:0 enabled = 0
    Disk 1:0 = 0
    Disk 1:1 enabled = 0
    Disk 1:1 = 0
    [Floppy disks]
    ......

    Note the missing custom HDs.

    Am I missing something in my initial pvs file?

    Do you have Parallels Desktop opened with this configuration when you edited your config file?

    Nope it is closed.

    When I save the file and the open it again it is all fine. But it is reset once I open the VM.

    Can you try it on latest version? I tried to reproduce this situation with your config, but failed to do this. All work fine and the config file is not changed.

    Thanks, before I try that, I have discovered another "problem", which is possibly connected to this issue here. Who knows ;)

    why bootcamp when it is still in beta?

    if I was a serious gamer I would get a purpose built PC or a playstation 3 etc etc

    I tried with the latest version now and the problem persists.

    I did a complete uninstall of the old Parallels installation, just in case something was interfering.

    I customize my file, save it (Parallels is not running while I do this). I open it again to double check and everything I customized is there. I then open the VM and it reverts to the pvs file that was generated via Parallels when I set the VM up. Very wierd.

    I just declare all my hard disks as shared folders

    as a long time mac user
    (I rejected dos in 1995 )
    I refuse to edit any sysconfig type file manually

    I avoided bootcamp becasue it was in beta and still is
    which is why I always ask "Why bootcamp?"

    unless you are a hacker try and do it the easy way
    use the automation of the Mac OS which you pay for
    Win Xp is catching up in automation
