J Joseph Ghammashi Junior Member Nov 5, 2009 #2 I think what you are referring to is the sound the CD-ROM drive makes when you power on certain MacBook Pros (maybe others too). If the VM is configured to grab the CD-ROM on boot, it will make the noise again. It isn't your hard drive.
