Questions about Parallels & Bootcamp

1) When you select the Bootcamp partition to make it accessible via Parallels, do you have to go through the mess of re-registering Windows both when booting into it via Parallels and when booting into it via native Bootcamp?

2) Do you have to do above once or several times?

3) I've tested a Parallels VM (non-Bootcamp) and it seems about twice as fast loading programs and other operations as a Bootcamp-based VM in Fusion. Do you pay this same penalty with a Bootcamp based Parallels VM?

4) Are there other secrets/tricks to using Parallels based on a Bootcamp partition?

1) You'll have to reactivate in Parallels, but that should be all that's necessary.
2) Once
3) I'm not aware of such a performance penalty. Disk access will actually be faster with a Boot Camp VM. As such the speed you will get should be about the same or better than that of a normal VM.
4) You can specific a custom Boot Camp configuration if you are unable to get Parallels to detect your Boot Camp partition.

Additional questions re: Parallels Bootcamp VM

When I reactivated I actually used a different Windows 25 digit number/code. I have half a dozen copies of Windows XP and only 2 computers, so I have extra copies.

My question is: will this produce a problem if I try to reboot directly into the real Bootcamp installation, which uses another number (I had to call and reactivate that one since it was used formerly on another machine I had to discard).

Also, what's this Smart Select thing all about? Is it clicking on a file brings up whatever program that type of file is associated with whether or not Parallels is running?

Is there some way to neutralize it easily?
