reading a dvd

I have the l latest build 3094 beta 2.

After inserting a typical DVD, it seems to be recognized by Parallels, and the Media Player opens up, but then give the following error: Windows Media Player cannot play this DVD because a compatible DVD decoder is not installed on your computer. I went to Microsoft's web link and found a few DVD encoders, but they all cost money. Is there a free DVD encoder that can read routine movie or data DVD?

My Solution

I had the exact same problem. I did find a free DVD encoder but it looked liked it contained spyware. Therefore, I downloaded and installed VLC for Windows. It plays the DVD fine. It may not be the best solution, but at least it's free.
