Reading my virtual disk file

Unfortunately I was running Windows XP thorugh parallels and it crashed big time, will only get to a black screen now even in safe mode. I would love to get some of the information that was stored on my virtual hard disk off, does anyone know how I might do that?

Install New instance of WIN OS and in configuration window connect old .hdd file as a second hard drive. In my computer second hard drive will appear.
