Hello Michael Davies. Please refer this blog for the various backup options available for the virtual machine. We do not have any specific recommendation for the file storage programs. You can choose any one of the programs which suit your needs.

I agree with the KB posted by Sathiya@Parallels that Manual is the best way to go (copying the PD file to a backup location).
