Recover from Deleted Settings (.pvs) File

Being the idiot I am, I deleted the settings file rather than the lock file when my VM wouldn't launch. Now I'm stuck with a seemingly useless disk image.

Is there anyway to create a new VM that uses my old disk image?

Thanks in advance. I really don't want to go through reinstalling Windows again.
 
Sure. Just create a new VM. Then without starting it, note the name of the .hdd file, then delete it. Move the .hdd file from your old VM into the new VM folder and rename it to the same name as the one you just deleted (if necessary). Then start your new VM (by double clicking on the .pvs file as the easiest way).
 
Thanks for the help.. I was able to get a new VM attatched to my old disk image. However, now it seems my old disk image is corrupted somehow. I'm beginning to remember why I swore off Windows so many years ago.
 
Many years ago Windows was much more of a challenge to keep running than it is today. Many years ago (pre OSX) I didn't find the Mac so wonderful either. Today, with OSX, I'm very happy with the Mac, but I still get paid to run Windows, and have a few Windows apps I can't migrate to the Mac for one reason or another, so Windows is part of my life and I've learned to cope.

You may have some success booting your VM from your Windows install disk and doing a repair. Once you do that, and get everything working to your liking, a backup copy of your VM might leave you with less hair torn out the next time something happens. External drive prices have gone way down in the last few years. Today, if you can afford a computer, you can probably afford a backup drive or three.
 
Thanks for your continued support. I finally got my VM running again, I just had to do a system restore from a few weeks back. Luckily all the scripts I use on the Windows VM are stored on a network drive.

Good idea on the backup, for some reason I'd neglected to include Parallels in my backup routine. Had to learn the hard way I guess ;)
