Restoring Problem

Hi

I was on build 3188 and I have upgraded to 3214. I did the upgrade because under 3188 I developed a problem that it would say in Windows reading the hard disk but then nothing would happen.

So, I deleted everything and installed it again and then upgraded to 3214. 3214 works great.

My problem is, I need some files off the Windows desktop from the 3188 build. I had it backed up and it was when the Parallels build was working. I copied it to my desktop and substituted it for the newest winxp.hdd and when I try to access it via Parallels it just sits there after saying it is loading the hard disk.

Is there anyway to get the work off of the old copy of winxp.hdd? Do I need to go back to build 3188 and then try the substitution again? Please help a lot of work will be lost if I can't get the data back.

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly. I did add the old hdd file to be disk2 in the VM. I went into Windows and looked for it but couldn't find it. I am not versed in Windows so please tell me how to access the information.

Try this:

From the Windows Start Menu
Click on "My Computer"
Click on "Local Disk C:"
Click on Documents and Settings
select <Your name for your windows account> or try <all users> if that doesn't work
Click on Desktop folder
Now you should see the files you were looking for.
 
I tried what you suggested and using all users and then desktop it shows Parallels shared folders. Clicking on them it is only blank. Same thing with clicking on owner, desktop and then it is blank too.

My VM is showing Hard Disk 2.

I appreciate all your help. Do you have any more suggestions?

I have a similar problem as sharingsunshine. I wasn't able to fix my DiskDescriptor because the image included snapshots. So, I created a new VM, changed the name of the original winxp.hdd to disk2.hdd, and added it as Hard Disk 2 to the new VM. It does not show up as a folder, but there is a new Drive E: that is not formatted. How can we see the files from the original hdd when Windows can't read the disk?
