Run Parallels/VM (s) From Seperate Mac Partitions

Suppose Parallels has been installed and VM (s) configured all From 1 Mac Partition.

Now the user wants to mirror the exact setup on a separate Mac Partition (avoiding having to reinstall Windows on every Mac OS Partition!)


How to?


Can Parallels simply be installed on the second Mac OS partition and it will "find" the VMs on the other???


It would be great to "sync" the VM so when the user is on different Mac OS partitions the VM will always be the same/up to date

Not sure I properly understand your question, but maybe it will help to say that The Windows VM can exist on ANY partition, doesn't need to be on the one with OSX and Parallels on it.

Parallels won't just find it, but you can double click on the .pvs file VM after you have moved/copied it, and it will find Parallels and start running, but you will need to use the configuration editor to change the address of "unattended.fdd" to the new one under "Floppy option".

Not sure if your mirror operation is a one time transfer exercise, or a back up, (both OK) but it sounds like you are doing it to have a second OSX without Windows..not a valid reason (if I have understood you right).

Keep the one OSX wih Parallels application on it (with a mirror backup) and have the windows VMs on separate volume or partition.

not sure about the rename method you outlined. didnt work here. p kept asking for "missing" files. instead i just copied the whole xp folder to the active drive and it works ...so far.


doesnt seem like p is currently designed to sync instances of vms nor it it currently designed to reliably "transfer" vms without possible errors.
