I am running Parallels 2.2 build 2222 on Windows 2003 and have setup a VM. I then try and add a 2nd NIC and save the configuration. After closing the VM and reopening it the 2nd NIC is no longer there. I can see it when opening the VPS file in Notepad. Yet it does not display in my resources or when starting my VM. I have tried to edit the VPS file but to no avail. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi John, tried the new version and deleted my previous VM and PVS file. Created brand new VM and allocated two NIC's to the new VM. Then went ahead and installed Windows Server 2003 and set VM up. Two NIC were visible and configured. Then shut VM down and made sure that PVS was saved. Checked PVS configuration using Notepad and can see that Network2 configuration is indeed there. shutdown Parallels and restart it. No second NIC available. I can let you have the text output of the PVS file if needed.

One more question is w2k3 installed on Virtual Machine itself, or it is real server?
Please also give me information about
    SP level
    w2k3 edition

Hi John, I have Windows Server 2003 R2 Standard Edition with SP2 loaded on my real server and am trying to do the same on my VM. My VM needs to emulate my real server as we need this for fail over testing and also for running two different versions og our software on it for regression testing. They need to be able to talk to each other as well and for this reason I need the second NIC. One for my internal network and one for my MPLS link.

I have the same problem with VMs (FreeBSD and XP) on a real Windows XP SP2.

I just downloaded the demo the other day which still has this issue. Has this been resolved? This is a show stopper for me! Please don't make me use VMWare!!!!!! :)

Wow quick response! Thanks!. Second NIC is showing now! Great!

I have the second NIC for host only. When the VM tries to do it's DHCP thing on the second adapter it just timesout with getting an IP address. I look in Windows XP services ( Running WIndows XP SP3 HOST ) and see that the Parallels DHCP service is not running. I try to start it but it stops immediately. Any ideas? Suggestions?

    thanks!

    Looks like something preventing this.
May be you can try to uninstall and install back Parallels Workstation

Yeah, I tried that a couple of times. The weird part is that it worked once the first time I installed it. I created a new VM and tried it there but it still wouldn't work. I tried manually starting it. nothing. I don't see any errors in the XP event log. Is there another log to look at?

Unfortunately, there is not error at all. Just the windows message that the service started and stopped. I tried running the service from the command line and it does stay running.

    Added 8/5/2008,

Curious, I originally installed Parallels when connected to a wired network. I am not connected through a different wireless network. I have reinstalled multiple times on while on the wireless network and this had made no difference.

Is there a debug version of the DHCP service that I could run that would displare more error messages? I'm willing to help troubleshoot.

    thanks!
