set hwclock in Solaris VM

Bit poster
recently I booted my solaris 10 nevada 55 image and the clock was off. So I tried to set the time, but no matter what I do it won't take it. I tried ntpdate <server> and it adjusts the time, but the next time I check the date it is wrong again. I am still running build 1970 on a mac pro since the new betas have other problems.

You should try running xntpd in Solaris. Your time will always be withinmicroseconds of actual and it runs continuously.

I have the ntp svc enabled, but that does not matter. Even trying to set the clock by hand as root does not work. After setting the time it jumps right back to the old, wrong value.

Did you edit the ntp.conf file to tell it where to find time servers?

yes. I even ran ntpdate manually and it didn't work. I can not even set the date with the date command.
