setting up wireless

Hi everyone,

I am trying to help a family setup Parallels on a Mac Book Pro and install some software in Windows. Pretty much Ive gotten to the end where Parallels, Windows and most of the software is installed in Windows. However, I dont know how to configure the wireless feature to work with their Mac and windows on the same machine. I am not a Mac user. In Windows, I do not see the wireless card appear in Device Manager. I only see the Ethernet adapter in Device Manager. On the Mac side, in the network settings, I see an option for the Air Port, is that what I am suppose to use? They have a Netgear router with Road Runner internet access. I dont know the SSID of their network, how can I find this out if I cant get the router page to come up?

the Mac does the wireless, Windows will just be like setting up a wired connection.
First you need to get the wireless going under network on the Mac
then
when you first start the guest vm you see a Configuration list, click on Network Adapter (if not there click on Configuration and add. under network adapter config select bridged eternet and then on pull down select wireless adapter (ie. AirPort/Wireless Adapter)
Then
when you start the vm (action/start) windows should sence the new network adapter and setup the drivers for it.

When you say "guest VM" you mean when I click on the windows icon on the Mac desktop, right, like windows is the guest vm? I do see a screen for a few seconds before windows start, but it goes away quickly before I can see the contents. Is that the screen you are talking about?
 
it sound like you have under Options/Booting/Start VM auto... checked. Im not sure how you uncheck this once you set it, I have never used this because i use many

when you first start click on parallels infinity icon on mack it comes up with configuration editor window, that is the window im talking aboug
 
I have the same problem with vista ultimate. It can't find any network device in windows. How do I set it up? I set up the VM according to the previous post.
 
Configuration editor

Ok silentman I can at least answer how to get to that elusive configuration editor. Maybe someone else can tell us both how to get it to stay on the the bottom of the screen. Go to the magnifying glass top right (blue circle with the magglass) and click it. type in parallels and select parallels desktop (top hit). You can pretty much follow what has already been said from there and accomplish your goal. Can anyone tell us how to get the parallels desktop to show as an icon. I am new to Mac's?
 
Here is what tech support told me

I called tech support to ask them about this problem. They said there are a few things you can do to improve the video performance: first with the VM in a window on the Mac drag the lower right hand corner of the window to stretch the screen as large as you can. Second go to full screen. You should see a vast improvement at this point. Next close the VM and open up the Parallels Desktop. On the top left Mac bar select Parallels Desktop and then select preferences and then Appearance. Make sure The box next to Full Screen: [ ] Change Mac OS X resolution is NOT checked. Hit OK. Also back in Parallels Desktop you can click on the Memory choice and increase video memory to 32. Hit OK. The last thing you can do is go back in the VM and at Windows desktop go to properties and see if you can increase the resolution . I did all of this and have acceptable resolution plus 100% of the screen is in use.
