Shared folders - how to use?

Hi,

I can't copy files into the shared folders volume when in windows, and i can't save files in applications to the shared folders volume. How do I use this feature? Also, once a file is in the shared folders volume how do I access it in OS X? Is there a way to copy a file from OS X into this shared folder volume? Thanks.
 
Just to elaborate further, I do have sharing enabled. I am logged in as an adminstrator, but windows xp tells me that i don't have access to the shared folder and i should check with my administator.
