Smartcard Reader

I still have no idea how this is supposed to work. I plug in the smartcard reader (USB, Gemstar) and it is never seen by the app. WHy?
 
I had the hardest time with this myself as I must not have RTFM or something as it was as simple as plugging in the smartcard reader and selecting it under the Devices / USB menu. When I found that I felt like such a fool but was extremely happy to see the smartcard reader working! :)
